Announcement about the passing away of Dr. Fritz Wendland, Honorary Founding Member

With the deepest sorrow and sincere grief, the IBSSA Headquarters announces to all its members, associated organisations, and partners the decease of our dear friend, Dr. Fritz Wendland (Germany), Honorary Founding Member of the IBSSA. He died, after a serious illness, at the age of 78.

Amongst his numerous high positions and deserved awards, Sir Fritz was Knight Commander of the Sovereign Order of Cyprus (Knights of Sword and Silence), Founding President of the World Karate Confederation (WKC), received the Scottish Shogun Award of the Order of the Scottish Samurai (OSS), 7th Dan International Shotokan-ryu Karate-do Shihankai (ISKS). He was a renowned and highly respected figure of martial arts.

Few are the men who, like Fritz, were loved and respected internationally by all those who had the chance to meet him or were lucky enough to become his friends. Throughout his life, Fritz has always worked selflessly for others, training bodies and minds, helping to define and strengthen the character, self-confidence and self-esteem of many young people.

For the IBSSA, Fritz’s death was a grave loss, deeply felt by all, but he will be remembered by us as an example of how a noble hearted “Knight” should be, and as a lighthouse to all of us, indicating the bearings of the selfless humanitarian work. He will stay forever in our hearts.

Prof. George Popper, President of IBSSA presents in his name and in the name of his family, as well as on behalf of all the members of the association, to the dear family of Dr. Fritz Wendland the most sincerely and deeply felt condolences.
